good teacher day...

today was funny, to say the very least.

we were in the lab today working on persuasive essays. before the bell, students were lined up at the door, and i hear, "what's an areola?" i freeze in my tracks, trying not to laugh. the little girl keeps repeating the word over and over, and a boy is laughing. my face turns red as she turns to me. i tell her i don't think i can say what it is, as my face is already tomato-ish without saying anything. no one else seems to know, and at this time the entire class is wondering what the word means. finally another girl speaks up and says she knows. i ask her to quietly tell the class what it is...in a not-so-inside voice with the lab door wide open, she shouts that "you know the colored part of your boob? the nipple? how it's dark? well, that's what it's called." i can see people in the hallway staring in at us, and my face turns even redder than before. all the rest of the class and i can do is laugh.
i'm beginning to wonder if i'm mature enough to handle this teaching thing...

OH MY GOD THAT'S HYSTERICAL!!!! That goes right along with my kids asking today "why does Curley keep his hand in a glove with Vaseline to keep it soft for his wife?" I muttered something about it not being school appropriate...and they accuse ME of being the perv!! What? hehehehehehe

i wish they would've at least spent a day discussing how to talk to kids about sex and all that. those things that every teacher has to deal with, but no one talks about. i found it so difficult to write my first student up and to hand out my first "f," but we never talked about this stuff...or nipple talk.
but i suppose it makes for some interesting stories...and an interesting day. keeps me on my toes.

I told my 8th period today (the victims of RAMPANT brain damage) that if the professors allowed people in teacher-college to actually spend time in a classroom, NO ONE would EVER become a teacher!! They'd all be like, "peace out homies!"

I said..."THIS!" pointing to them..."THIS is NOT in the textbook!"
